The madness, mayhem and mustaches return in ‘Super Troopers 3’

More than 20 years after Super Troopers became a cult comedy phenomenon, the Broken Lizard team is back with Super Troopers 3. Director, co-writer, and star Jay Chandrasekhar reunites with the original cast for another outrageous adventure, proving that the beloved Vermont state troopers haven't lost their knack for chaos—or comedy. This latest wild chapter in the hit franchise sees Chandrasekhar welcome to the cast Hannah Simone, Iqbal Theba, and Sakina Jaffrey for an unpredictable family feud.

Broken Lizard is an American comedy troupe that was formed in 1989 at Colgate University. It started with Chandrasekhar assembling a sketch comedy troupe, bringing together Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske. They collaborate on the screenwriting, acting and productions of their films, with Chandrasekhar and Heffernan being the primary directors; the team however does not have any single leader and they work collaboratively when choosing material and writing projects.

The third installment of the cult comedy classic is about Farva’s (Heffernan) wildly over-the-top Indian engagement to Thorny’s (Chandrasekhar) sister, played by Simone, spiraling into chaos. The Super Troopers must navigate Thorny’s schemes to break up the relationship, while trying to crack a pernicious new drug ring—all to save the day and maybe the wedding itself.

Chandrasekhar, who directed the film as well as starred in it, and Simone talk about the absurd comedy, why the franchise continues to resonate with audiences, and bringing the Indian touch to this third installment. 

Super Troopers 3 races into theaters on Friday, delivering another dose of nostalgia, quotable moments, and the signature comedy that made the franchise a cult favorite.
