There is a silver lining for Steven Yeun. Earlier this week we, alongside other Marvel fans and Yeun stans, were crying over the reports he had to drop out of the antihero ensemble film, Thunderbolts.

However, in new reports, Killers of the Flower Moon screenwriter Eric Roth revealed Yeun is reuniting with Minari director Lee Isaac Chung for a small “love story” project, with Parasite director Bong Joon Ho to produce. What a dream team.

While Steven’s involvement was never officially announced by Marvel, his name became intertwined with the role of the superhero Sentry, since last February. He would have joined a cast composed of Florence Pugh, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko all reprising their respective MCU characters. The Bear star Ayo Edebiri was also confirmed in an undisclosed role.

The project would have reunited Yeun with Beef co-creator Lee Sung Jin, who was tapped to help with the script.

Yeun explained to Variety the SAG-AFTRA strikes were one reason for his departure. “I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it,” he said. “It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out.” He would still love to do a Marvel project in the future.

In the meantime, while we all wait for the second part of the second season of Invincible to release on Amazon (Yeun just can’t catch a break with the superhero stuff), he can be found starring in a postapocalyptic love story titled Love Me, opposite Kristen Stewart. It will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 19.

Stay tuned for reviews of this and other Sundance premieres in the coming weeks.
