We could all use a few more laughs.
Comedian, actor, and Emmy-nominated storyteller Kiran Deol is bringing back the joy in life with her first original comedy special JoySuck, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Named as one of Entertainment Weekly’s comics to watch, Deol hopes people will find the joy, despite the suck, as they deal with life’s issues such as inflation, politics, and other societal ills. You can’t miss her signature pink jumpsuit, which she says, represents the contrast of bringing light to the dark topics. Deol says she wanted to make something that could give people some brightness and tools to take with them at a time when people are facing uncertainty and darkness.
Deol is also a co-host on Crooked Media’s Hysteria podcast and a touring stand-up comedian who has headlined at the NY Comedy Festival, the Kennedy Center, and more.
Most recently, Deol was seen leading the zombie flick Didn’t Die, directed by Meera Menon, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. She’s appeared on shows Modern Family, and How to Get Away with Murder, and starred on the NBC Sunnyside.
As a writer/director she has made films for HBO and Sundance. Her film Woman Rebel was nominated for an Emmy and shortlisted for an Academy Award.
Deol chats with JoySauce about balancing humor and activism, her special moment with one of her idols, Margaret Cho, and going beyond the South Asian narrative.
