This week Youngmi Mayer talked to her mom, Ippun Mayer (AKA the person who said “If you laugh while crying hair grows out of your butthole”). She talked about Youngmi’s great-grandmother getting kidnapped, her grandmother being forced to marry a poor guy, her uncle being murdered by Japanese soldiers, and the suicides of her other uncle and grandfather. Ippun also talked about why it’s important to her that Koreans do not continue to hate Japanese people.
