Disney’s reimagining of its 2002 classic Lilo & Stitch gives us our first look at the titular alien in his full CGI blue glory. The film follows Lilo, a rambunctious and lonely Hawaiian girl, and Stitch, a mischievous alien initially mistaken for a dog. As two outcasts who find each other, they form an unexpected bond and teach each other the true meaning of family.
Newcomer Maia Kealoha stars as Lilo, alongside Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani, Kaipo Dudoit as David, and Billy Magnussen as Pleakley. The cast also includes Hannah Waddingham as Grand Councilwoman, Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba, and Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles. Tia Carrere, who originally voiced Nani, returns in a new role as social worker Mrs. Kekoa, while David’s original voice actor, Jason Scott Lee, makes a special cameo.
Chris Sanders, the original film’s co-director and co-writer, reprises his role as the voice of Stitch. The live-action adaptation is helmed by Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On), with a screenplay by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright and Mike Van Waes.
Get ready for a different kind of “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” when Lilo & Stitch hits theaters nationwide on May 23.
