A roundup of news from Netflix's Geeked Week 2024 on series, including “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “Squid Game,” “Cobra Kai,” and more

Netflix’s Geeked Week 2024 Live dropped some big announcements during their special two-hour event, hosted for the first time in person in Atlanta last week, including breaking casting news and exclusive teaser trailers on more than a dozen series including shows starring and featuring actors from the Asian Pacific Islander diaspora such as Squid Game and Arcane, as well as JoySauce favorites Avatar: The Last Airbender (ATLA) and Cobra Kai.
Every year, Geeked Week boasts a lineup of not only star-studded appearances by actors from some of Netflix’s most popular shows, but also unveils never-before-seen clips and trailers from upcoming original genre films such as Don’t Move and It’s What’s Inside.
The showcase was hosted by actor Joe Manganiello, who shared some exciting casting news for season two of the live-action adaptation of the anime One Piece. ATLA’s Dallas Liu (Zuko) and Ian Ousley (Sokka) appeared to announce who would be playing Toph in the next season of their show. And Cobra Kai stars Jacob Bertrand and Xolo Maridueña manned the Fan Zone Pod stage, where they reacted to the latest trailers and clips, and shared an exclusive look at last season’s bloopers, as well as the last and sixth season of the show—among many other reveals.

Avatar: The Last Airbender
Season two of the show is officially in production, with it set to release in 2026. Be on the lookout for JoySauce’s upcoming interview with Liu and Ousley about what fans can expect to come in the next season. The two actors also took to the Geeked Week stage to announce actress Miya Cech as Toph, an earthbending prodigy with enhanced powers as a result of being blind, and who will join Aang’s gang to defeat Firelord Ozai.

Squid Game
Lee Jung-jae is back as Seong Gi-hun, aka Player 456, in the second season of Squid Game. The K-drama comments on the effects of modern-day, late-stage capitalism through a deadly game that forces everyday citizens to gamble with their lives in exchange for a life-changing amount of money. The second season will be released on Dec. 26.
Arcane
The second and final season of the League of Legends animated show Arcane will be split into three acts. Act one will be released on Nov. 9, act two on Nov. 16, and act three on Nov. 23. An exclusive official clip of season two reveals main character Vi has become a pit fighter, with sneak peeks at other notable characters in the show’s universe.
Cobra Kai
JoySauce’s resident film and TV show critic Siddhant Adlakha reviewed part one of Cobra Kai’s sixth and final season earlier this year. Part two will be released on Nov. 15 on Netflix, with part three to follow sometime in 2025 (no date has been announced yet). Spinning off of the original The Karate Kid films created by Robert Mark Kamen, the show is about middle-aged Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence restarting their old martial arts rivalries, with a whole new young cast of karate teens. While we wait for the part two to drop, enjoy this bloopers reel from part one!

Manganiello announced at Geeked Week that he would be playing the villain Mr. 0 in the upcoming second season of One Piece, alongside Lera Abova as Miss All Sunday. The live-action adaptation of the Japanese anime is part of Netflix’s growing slate of adaptations of animated shows and manga, which the JoySauce team definitely has thoughts about.
Devil May Cry
Based on the video game series of the same name, Devil May Cry is an upcoming adult animated urban fantasy action series created by Adi Shankar, set to release April 2025. The series follows Dante (Johnny Yong Bosch), an orphaned demon hunter, as he deals with sinister forces at play between the human and demon realms.
Hellbound
The horror K-drama will be getting a second season! Set to arrive on Netflix Oct. 25, the series will see the return of Jung Jinsu (Yoo Ah-in), founder of the religious cult the New Truth, after being condemned to hell for several years. Upon his return, he realizes the dicta of the New Truth and its more extreme sect, the Arrowhead, now rule society.
Don’t Move
A film about a grieving woman who hopes to find solace deep in an isolated forest and encounters a stranger who injects her with a paralytic agent. As the agent gradually takes over her body, she must run, hide, and fight for her life before her entire nervous system shuts down. From producer Sam Raimi and starring Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock, Don’t Move comes to Netflix Oct. 25.
It’s What’s Inside
A film about a group of friends who gather for a pre-wedding party that descends into an existential nightmare when an estranged friend arrives with a mysterious game that awakens long-hidden secrets, desires, and grudges. It’s What’s Inside comes to Netflix Oct. 4.
