Netflix has announced that production has wrapped on season two of Avatar: The Last Airbender, with season three now entering production in partnership with Nickelodeon. To commemorate the season two milestone, the cast shared a video from the set.
The second season of the live adaptation of the beloved animated series brings in several key new faces. Terry Chen (Jessica Jones) will play Jeong Jeong, the firebending master known for his strict philosophy and initial reluctance to train Aang. Dolly de Leon, who broke out in Triangle of Sadness, takes on the roles of Lo and Li, Azula’s eerily synchronized twin advisors. Lily Gao (Blue Sun Palace) joins as Ursa, the long-lost mother of Zuko and Azula whose story is central to their emotional arcs. Madison Hu (The Brothers Sun) portrays Fei, an original character created for the series. Dichen Lachman (Severance) will appear as Avatar Yangchen, the revered Air Nomad who doesn’t appear until season three in the original animated series.
They join an expanded ensemble that includes Miya Cech, Chin Han, Hoa Xuande, Justin Chien, Amanda Zhou, Crystal Yu, and others, alongside returning leads Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Elizabeth Yu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Daniel Dae Kim, and Momona Tamada.
Looking ahead to season three, new additions include Jon Jon Briones (Hadestown) as Piandao, the master swordsman who mentors Sokka, and Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon) as Hama, a Southern Water Tribe elder whose dark use of waterbending leaves a haunting impact on Katara.
