Harold and Kumar are lighting up the screen once more.

A new installment of the beloved stoner comedy franchise is officially in development, with Cobra Kai and Obliterated creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald attached to write the script. Hurwitz and Schlossberg will also direct the film, marking a full-circle moment as the duo wrote the original Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004) and directed its sequel Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008).

The project is being developed at Lionsgate's Mandate Pictures, which also produced the original trilogy. Though casting details haven’t been finalized, original stars John Cho and Kal Penn are expected to return.

The new film promises a return to the R-rated, irreverent humor and social satire that helped the original movies become cult classics. The franchise broke ground at the time by centering Asian American leads in a genre typically dominated by white actors.
