Netflix is set to debut a new animated action comedy, K-Pop Demon Hunters, on June 20, in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation. The film follows a superstar K-pop girl group made up of trio Rumi (voiced by Arden Cho), Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), and Mira (May Hong), who live double lives as demon slayers when they’re not topping the charts. Their latest threat is a rival boy band of demons in disguise.

The voice cast includes an impressive lineup of talent including Ahn Hyo-seop (Business Proposal) as Jinu, a mysterious member of the rival group, alongside Daniel Dae Kim, Yunjin Kim, Joel Kim Booster, Ken Jeong, Byung Hun Lee, and more. The film is directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who also co-wrote the script with Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan.
Maybe the most exciting aspect of K-Pop Demon Hunters is the stacked music artists attached to the project. The soundtrack features original songs by top producers including Teddy Park, 24, KUSH, and Vince and Danny Chung, known for their work at THEBLACKLABEL and creating hits for superstar K-pop act BLACKPINK. Vocal performances will come from artists such as EJAE, Audrey Nuna, REI AMI, Kevin Woo, Lea Salonga, and Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung from K-pop girl group TWICE.
In a press release from Netflix, Kang said, “I have been a fan of these incredible artists and their work for many years, so it’s a dream come true to have original songs written and produced for our film by legendary talent such as THEBLACKLABEL. I also couldn’t be more thrilled about our collaboration with Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Chaeyoung of TWICE. It really legitimizes our film and songs in the K-pop world. It’s proof that we achieved what we set out to do, which is make a real K-Pop group.”
Cho added, “K-Pop Demon Hunters is about so much more than just K-pop. It's really about culture and identity, and who you are and your place in the world. For me, it’s so meaningful to get to be a part of this movie and play Rumi, and I wish I had something like this growing up.”
