Check out Anderson .Paak’s directorial debut, ‘K-pops!’

This marks the feature directorial debut for .Paak, who also co-wrote and produced the film. In addition, .Paak developed original music for the project in collaboration with veteran K-pop producer Dem Jointz.

Set largely in South Korea, K-Pops! follows BJ, a struggling American musician played by .Paak, who accepts a job performing with the house band for a televised K-pop competition series. While working on the show, BJ encounters Tae Young, an aspiring contestant portrayed by .Paak’s real-life teenage son, Soul Rasheed. The story unfolds as BJ discovers Tae Young is his son from a past relationship, prompting the two to navigate their shared passion for music while rebuilding a fractured family connection.

The cast includes Jonnie “Dumbfoundead” Park, KPop Demon Hunters star Kevin Woo, Jee Young Han, Cathy Shim, Emi Kim, Eddie Park and Yvette Nicole Brown. The film also features cameo appearances from musicians and public figures including SEVENTEEN’s Vernon, Crush, South Korean band The Rose, and Diplo.

K-Pops! premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival before making its U.S. debut at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival. 

It is scheduled to open exclusively in AMC theaters on Feb. 27.
