Astrology with Alice: Welcome to Astrology with Alice, a monthly astrology column aimed at helping readers understand the vibes of the month ahead in plain English. As a Taiwanese immigrant who grew up in Los Angeles, I specialize in combining western astrology with eastern philosophy. I’ve taught modern astrology through the lens of Buddhism and Taoism, and I also draw from the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. Knowing the movements of the planets can help us make decisions around our careers, relationships, family. As the planets move around in the sky, they shift the energetic vibes we experience on Earth, and I believe in flowing with energy instead of fighting it—to work smarter, not harder. So join me on our monthly planetary lowdowns and learn how you, too, can ride the cosmic waves!
Brace yourselves. Uranus is changing signs, and when Uranus changes signs, so does everything else.
Unlike the previous shifts of Saturn into Aries and Jupiter’s move into Cancer, this Uranian transit into Gemini is a big one. Saturn changes signs every two and a half years and Jupiter does the same annually—but Uranus stays in a sign for seven years, which makes its impact on us stronger. (The general rule is, the slower the celestial object, the more powerful it is.) In fact, it was Neptune and Uranus changing signs in the same year that gave me the wiggins about 2025, which I touched on in January’s overview of the year.
On July 7, Uranus is going into Gemini for the first time since 1941, and it’ll stay there until 2032. This will mark a seven-year transit that’ll feel like a big collective download from an alien satellite. (And, honestly? With how technological leaps tend to happen when Uranus is in Gemini, that might not even be metaphorical!)
But first, we must bid farewell to Uranus in Taurus, where it has spent the last seven years rattling the stock market, agriculture (and food supply), real estate—all things under the rulership of Taurus. Taurus, at the end of the day, is the sign of comfort, stability, and status quo, and—woof—we’ve certainly had ups and downs that challenged those values over the last seven years.
Gemini energy is fast, curious, and restless, and it invites change, so we may have the opposite problem here, where too much change happens too quickly.
The energy of Taurus does not like change, so the breakthroughs of a disruptive planet like Uranus felt like they were happening begrudgingly. Gemini, however, is a completely different animal. Gemini energy is fast, curious, and restless, and it invites change, so we may have the opposite problem here, where too much change happens too quickly.
In general, however, Uranus brings awakening, innovation, disruptions, and rebellion. Gemini rules information, learning, transportation, and communication. Gemini is the sign of the celestial twins, a metaphorical representation of two minds in one body. It’s a sign of paradox, multiplicity, and contradiction. Meanwhile, Uranus doesn’t resolve paradox—it exposes it. Therefore, this transit will challenge binary thinking. Right versus wrong? True versus false? Real versus fake? These lines will blur, and that’s exactly what Uranus wants, because it encourages us to start thinking in layers and to see nuance.
The history of Uranus in Gemini
The first place to start when predicting what a planet’s ingress into a new sign will bring is to look at what happened the last time the planet was there. The last time Uranus was in Gemini was from 1942-49, and during that time, we saw the end of World War II, the start of the Cold War, the splitting of the atom and the birth of the nuclear age, the invention of the computer, and the rise of television and mass media. There was both conflict as well as innovation.
We also witnessed the same pattern play out when Uranus was in Gemini in the 1860s during the American Civil War. Conflict occurred while we saw major innovations in how we communicated and traveled, as we adopted the telegraph, expanded the railroads, saw the rise of newspapers, and introduced early war photography. Journalism emerged as a force in shaping public opinion and perception.
Uranus in Gemini doesn’t always start wars, but it tends to arrive when the lines between nations, messages, and ideologies are fracturing. WWII and the Civil War were times of fragmentation and reformation. And in war, communication technologies aren’t just tools—they become the battlefield. That theme returns now, and possibly with higher stakes. As we enter this transit again, the world is already simmering as tensions are escalating in the Middle East. Proxy conflicts, surveillance states, and information warfare have replaced trenches and muskets.
The question now is no longer just who controls the narrative, but what is a narrative anymore? What happens when everyone has a platform and no one agrees on the facts?
The vibe shift (2025–33)
Uranus in Gemini is like lightning striking a radio tower. Together, they will spark revolutions in:
Media and tech: We can expect upheavals in how we communicate, consume news, and interact with machines. There will be more deepfakes and we’ll see the decentralization of media networks as consumers continue to move away from mainstream media and towards independent sources. Also expect to see a lot more AI-generated material.
Education and knowledge: Credentials might become obsolete as what counts as “knowing” will change.
Transportation and travel: Gemini rules movement and short-distance travel, so expect we might see self-driving cars, smart cities, and new forms of urban mobility that we can’t even imagine yet.
Speech and identity: Freedom of speech, censorship, and linguistic identity will become battlegrounds. Expect new pronouns, new slurs, new languages, and massive debates over who owns language, data, and thought.
Mental health and multitasking: Our collective attention span may take a hit. Information will be blasting at us like water from a fire hydrant, and we’ll be processing more input at higher speeds. This means that we’ll need to rewire our nervous systems and self-regulate, lest we get swept up in the nonstop, unrelenting current of information.
The gift of Uranus in Gemini
The gift of Gemini is curiosity, while Uranus’ gift is liberation. But together, they can also generate shock. This transit isn’t about calm, rather, it’s about clarity, which often arrives through disruption.
I’ve found that Uranus’ goal is to free us from our self-imposed constraints. It locks in on anything that’s binding us to inauthenticity. It could be societal or cultural pressure, a sense of familial duty, or even our assumptions about what we “should” do or “ought” to do.
I experienced a major Uranus transit in 2010 when Uranus and Jupiter in the sky joined right on my Aries sun in my birth chart. (Translation: It was a big flipping-of-the-switch event for me.) My career trajectory derailed spectacularly—shockingly, even, which is a very Uranian word, because Uranus’ innovations and disruptions often feel like they hit out of the blue. But you know what? The only reason I thought I wanted that career was for the approval of my family, which is not enough to sustain a career through decades. I would have burnt out and had an epic mid-life crisis. And with the benefit of age and hindsight, I realize now that Uranus did, in fact, liberate me (even if it left me a little shell-shocked initially).
The following years will be a time of splintered identities and fractal truths that might lead you to question what you believe and what you’ve been told.
Gemini is ruled by Mercury, who is the mythological trickster, messenger, and shapeshifter. And when Uranus—the celestial disrupter—takes up residence in Gemini, we’re asked to become more adaptable. The following years will be a time of splintered identities and fractal truths that might lead you to question what you believe and what you’ve been told. It’ll also make you question who you are when you’re not performing for an audience. The truths that are revealed and the disruptions that occur will be in the name of authenticity.
What this means for your sign
Here’s how Uranus in Gemini may shake things up for you. Remember—these are long-term themes that will play out over the next seven years. Read for your sun sign and your rising sign. (If you don’t know your rising sign, you can use this free online tool.)
Aries
Your mind’s on fire. Uranus is entering your house of communication and ideas. Start the podcast. Write the book. Rediscover your real voice.
Taurus
Your value system is evolving again. Uranus is leaving your sign and it’s moving into your house of money and self-worth. You may change how you earn, what you spend on, and what you believe is “worth it.”
Gemini
It’s all about you. Uranus is in your first house of identity, body, and visibility. You may feel like a stranger to yourself at first, but go with it. You’re being rewired.
Cancer
This transit activates your house of dreams, intuition, and the unconscious. Expect strange dreams, intuitive flashes, and a deeper urge to unplug from the noise. Insights will come to you in solitude when you really quiet the outside voices and listen to yourself.
Leo
Your friendships are shifting. Some will dissolve while others arrive unexpectedly like a bolt of lightning. Uranus lights up your house of community and vision, so a genius idea for a new path may emerge if you let it.
Virgo
A career revolution is coming. Uranus will be in your house of career and public honors. This could be a reinvention of vocation or a rebellion against authority. You’re being called to shake the system, not just serve it.
Libra
Your belief systems are being rewritten. Uranus is in your house of truth, travel, faith, and higher learning. What once gave your life meaning might now feel stale. Open your mind, learn, and expand your philosophical horizons.
Scorpio
Uranus enters your house of shared resources, intimacy, and transformation. Emotional and financial entanglements may get jolted. Let go of what isn’t mutually beneficial. You may also develop new interests or insights into the metaphysical.
Sagittarius
Your relationships will be anything but boring. Uranus enters your house of partnership. There may be unconventional dynamics and sudden shifts in relationships. Unexpected partnerships may also emerge. (They might not be romantic! Don’t forget that business partnerships are also partnerships!)
Capricorn
Your daily systems and habits are about to get scrambled. Uranus in your house of work and health warns against stagnation. Routines, health habits, and work rhythms need reinvention, so loosen the grip of control and get back in tune with the rhythms of your body.
Aquarius
Creativity comes in bursts. Uranus energizes your house of play, love, and fertility. Romance and artistry go rogue. Follow the spark, even if it fries the circuit. (Unexpected pregnancies are always a possibility when Uranus is in this house, so if you’re not wanting to become a parent, take the *cough* necessary precautions.)
Pisces
Uranus hits your house of home and family. You may change where or how you live, or you might question what home even means. Dysfunctional family patterns may surface. Don’t fear the shake-up. This is an opportunity for you to face what emerges to ultimately find clarity.
