Astrology with Alice: Welcome to Astrology with Alice, a monthly astrology column aimed at helping readers understand the vibes of the month ahead in plain English. As a Taiwanese immigrant who grew up in Los Angeles, I specialize in combining western astrology with eastern philosophy. I’ve taught modern astrology through the lens of Buddhism and Taoism, and I also draw from the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. Knowing the movements of the planets can help us make decisions around our careers, relationships, family. As the planets move around in the sky, they shift the energetic vibes we experience on Earth, and I believe in flowing with energy instead of fighting it—to work smarter, not harder. So join me on our monthly planetary lowdowns and learn how you, too, can ride the cosmic waves!
Jupiter is going into Leo on June 30, and the cultural mood is about to change. We are leaving the cozy, family focused, emotionally tender vibe of Jupiter in Cancer and stepping into something much louder. Jupiter in Leo is the year of the spotlight, the grand gesture, the audacious bet, the thing nobody thought would work that ends up working anyway. Whether that is exciting or exhausting to you probably depends on how much you like a parade.
Jupiter spends about a year in each sign, so we will have Leo's biggest, brightest, most theatrical energy on the menu through July 2027. And because Jupiter is what the ancients called "the great benefic," meaning the planet most associated with growth, opportunity, and good fortune, this is generally good news. Jupiter is the Santa Claus of the zodiac. It hands out gifts. But Jupiter's gifts have a price tag, and the price is that you have to actually show up and meet it halfway. (I went into the full breakdown of how Jupiter works in my Jupiter in Cancer column last year, so if you want the longer take on why this planet only rewards you when you're willing to take a shot, head over there.)
What changes with Leo is the style of the opportunity.
From the kitchen table to the main stage
Jupiter in Cancer was about nesting. Family, home, food, emotional roots, the people we love most. The opportunities of the past year came in quiet, private, intimate forms. A baby. A move. A reconciliation. A long-overdue conversation with a parent. The healing of something old. The vibe was domestic and tender.
Jupiter in Leo is the opposite. Leo rules the heart, the stage, creativity, performance, romance, children, and self-expression. It is the sign of the lion and the king. Whereas Cancer asked us to nurture in private, Leo asks us to put it on display. Jupiter in Leo wants you to take the thing you have been quietly working on and show it to the world. It wants the speech, the launch, the announcement, the audition, the gallery show, the big swing.
Whereas Cancer asked us to nurture in private, Leo asks us to put it on display.
It also wants the—*hairflip*—drama. Leo is theatrical by nature, and when Jupiter (which exaggerates everything it touches) is in Leo, the volume on the culture turns way up. Expect a year of bold creative output, viral moments, big personalities, and a lot of people taking very loud swings at being seen.
A look at the last time
If you want to know what Jupiter in Leo looks like, look at the last time it happened, which was July 2014 through August 2015.
A few things during that window: Hamilton opened off-Broadway at the Public Theater in January 2015 and exploded in a way nobody saw coming. Taylor Swift's 1989 World Tour became the highest-grossing tour of 2015 and one of the biggest in pop history at the time. The Ice Bucket Challenge took over the Internet in the summer of 2014 and raised more than $115 million for ALS research through sheer viral spectacle. (Performative and generous, which is peak Jupiter in Leo.) Apple launched the Apple Watch. Empire premiered on Fox and became a phenomenon. There was a lot of look at me, look at this, look how big this thing is in the air.
And on June 16, 2015, President Donald Trump rode the golden escalator down to announce his presidential campaign. Whatever you think of the man and the movement that followed, you cannot deny that the announcement itself was textbook Jupiter in Leo. Bombastic. Theatrical. Wildly confident. A literal staged entrance with cameras everywhere. At the time, almost nobody took it seriously, but he did it anyway. And the astrology was striking because Jupiter was at 24° Leo that day, sitting right near his natal ascendant at 29° Leo. Jupiter crossing your ascendant is one of the most "expand your public visibility" transits there is, and it expanded Trump’s into an actual presidency. Whether you read that as luck, alignment, hubris, or all three, it is a useful reminder that Jupiter in Leo does not ask if you are ready. It just amplifies whoever shows up.
I am not predicting a Trump-level event this round. But I am saying to watch for the bold, slightly outrageous bets that catch fire this year, because they will be coming.
The fire/air situation, and what summer might bring
I have to name something else, too, which is that Jupiter in Leo is joining a sky that is already pretty hot and dry, elementally speaking.
We have Saturn and Neptune both in Aries (fire); Uranus in Gemini (air); Pluto in Aquarius (air); and now Jupiter in Leo (fire). That is a lot of fire and air with very little water and earth to balance it. As I mentioned in last year’s Jupiter in Cancer piece, Jupiter in a water sign helped bring some cosmic moisture to the year. Fire-sign Jupiter does the opposite.
The last time Jupiter was in Leo, California was in the middle of what scientists later confirmed was the worst drought in 1,200 years. I am not saying that astrology caused the drought, but I am saying the elemental imbalance in the sky often correlates with what we see on the ground. Fire and air skies tend to coincide with hot, dry weather patterns, faster-spreading wildfires, and the kind of summers that test infrastructure. We have already had a rough year on the wildfire front. I would not be surprised to see another hot, dry summer ahead, with elevated wildfire risk especially in the American West.
I'm not trying to fearmonger, but if you live somewhere wildfire-prone, this is a year to have your go-bag ready, your evacuation plan refreshed, and at least your air purifier in working order. Standard summer prep—but actually do it.
What Jupiter in Leo is asking of us
Here is the deeper invitation underneath all the spectacle.
Jupiter in Leo wants you to stop apologizing for taking up space. It wants you to make the thing. To say the thing. To wear the outfit. To launch the project. To go on the date. To audition for the role. To start the substack, the podcast, the business, the YouTube channel. To stop waiting for permission. Leo is ruled by the sun, and Leo's whole job in the zodiac is to radiate. So go forth and be the unapologetic, undimmed, fully expressed version of yourself.
That is the invitation.
The challenge is that Jupiter expands whatever it touches, including Leo's shadow side, which is ego, attention seeking, performance for performance's sake, and the kind of confidence that bleeds into bravado. We will see a lot of that this year too. Be prepared for the people who treat visibility as the end goal rather than as a side effect of doing something genuinely meaningful, the hot takes that exist purely to go viral, the brands and influencers who turn themselves into bigger and louder versions of nothing in particular, and the political figures who confuse volume with substance.
If you have been sitting on something, this is the year to put it out there. If you’ve been waiting to feel "ready," this is the year to stop waiting. Jupiter only meets you halfway, and it will not push you towards success.
The way through this is to make sure that whatever you are putting in the spotlight has actual heart behind it. Leo's higher octave is generosity, warmth, courage, and creative joy. Its lower octave is vanity. Jupiter will amplify whichever one you bring to it, so bring the good stuff.
If you have been sitting on something, this is the year to put it out there. If you’ve been waiting to feel "ready," this is the year to stop waiting. Jupiter only meets you halfway, and it will not push you towards success. It’s truly the planet that helps those who help themselves…and throwing in some jazz hands as you do it won’t hurt.
Jupiter in Leo: Your year-long forecast by sign
Find your sun sign and your rising sign below. Jupiter only spends about a year in each sign before moving on, so whatever it is offering you, take it. (If you do not know your rising sign, you can find it with this free online tool.)
Aries
This is your year for play, romance, and creative expression. Whatever lights you up, do more of it. If you have a creative project you have been sitting on, now is the time to put it out there. Romance is also highlighted, so if you are single and looking, get out of your apartment. And if you have been thinking about having kids, this is a fertile window for that, too.
Taurus
Home is where the good fortune lives this year. This could mean buying or selling property, expanding your family, doing a major renovation, or finally making peace with a family member. Whatever your home base is, expect it to grow, deepen, or improve in some real way. Lean into making your space a sanctuary.
Gemini
Your voice gets amplified this year. Anything having to do with communicating, writing, speaking, teaching, or sharing your ideas is favored. If you have been thinking about starting a podcast, writing a book, or going public with your work, this is your green light. Just be careful not to spread yourself too thin across too many platforms.
Cancer
Money and self-worth are the headline. You may get a raise, a new income stream, or a financial opportunity you did not see coming. But Jupiter in Leo will only deliver if you actually believe you deserve it, so this is a year to do the inner work on your money story. Ask for what you are worth. You’re about to find out the answer.
Leo
Jupiter is coming home to your sign for the first time in 12 years, and this is your year to shine. Whatever you have been building, dreaming about, or quietly working toward is about to get a major boost. People will see you and opportunities will come to you. The catch? You have to show up. Jupiter rewards the brave, so take the risks you have been putting off.
Virgo
This is a quiet year of inner expansion. You may find yourself drawn to spiritual practice, therapy, meditation, or solitude. Things that have been bothering you under the surface will rise up to be healed. It’s also a great year for behind-the-scenes work, whether that is a passion project, a creative endeavor, or simply tending to your own inner life.
Libra
Your social world expands with new friends, new communities, new networks. If you have a long-term goal or a vision for the future you have been incubating, this is a year when the right people show up to help make it happen. Get out there. Join the thing. Go to the event. Your people are looking for you, too.
Scorpio
Your career and public reputation are about to get a serious upgrade. Promotions, recognition, big professional moves, or even a complete career pivot are all on the table. People in positions of influence will notice you, so do not shrink. Step into the role you have been preparing for. You’re more ready than you think.
Sagittarius
This is the year to broaden your world. Travel, study, publish, teach. Anything that expands your horizons is favored. If you have been thinking about going back to school, traveling somewhere bold, or finally writing that book, the wind is at your back. Just make sure the adventure has substance and is not just escapism.
Capricorn
The work you have been doing in the dark gets transformed this year. This can be a year of significant psychological breakthroughs. The stuff you have been afraid to look at? Look at it now. The reward is real. This is a good year for investments, working on your finances, and you’ll be lucky when it comes to getting loans. (If your work involves securing grants, get the Capricorn on your team to submit the application.)
Aquarius
Partnership is your big theme. If you are single, this is one of the best years in over a decade for meeting someone significant. If you are partnered, your relationship gets a chance to grow in major ways. And remember, partnerships are not only romantic. Business partners, collaborators, and creative co-conspirators are also part of this story. However, if you deserve better than your current situation, Jupiter will help you to see that.
Pisces
Your daily life and your body are the focus. Health routines, work habits, daily rituals, and the small repeated actions that make up your life all get a Jupiter boost. This is a great year to start a new wellness practice, find a job that actually fits you, or finally get a handle on the rhythm of your days. Small changes will pay off big.
