Arden Cho (Partner Track, Avatar: The Last Airbender) and comedian-actress Margaret Cho (All That We Love, Fire Island, Doctor Odyssey) are set to lead Cheap AF, an upcoming romantic comedy directed and written by first-time feature filmmaker Roy Hsu.
The film follows a frugal influencer, played by Arden Cho, who dreams of a breakout moment and enters a high-stakes social media contest hosted by Wedding Magazine for the “Best Wedding on a Budget.” In her pursuit of Internet fame and wedding perfection, she risks jeopardizing her relationships and engagement.
Hsu told Deadline, his goal with the film was “to tell a comedic bridezilla story” but “at its core, the film is about letting go of the past and discovering what truly matters—all through an Asian-American lens with themes that are universally relatable.”
Aside from Cheap AF, Arden Cho will voice a lead in Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters. Margaret Cho will join a slew of other comedians for LA’s Belly Laughs Festival in July.
Filming for Cheap AF begins in September in Seattle.
